Welcome to the PROMETHEUS Payment® Inc., Website

**Seeking Physician Input**

Formed in 2006 as a not-for-profit corporation to steward the further design and implementation of work over the previous two years by our Design Team, we invite you to our Publications page to read about our new provider payment model which offers a different approach to payment to include all providers treating a patient for specified conditions. In addition to many aspects of the program and concepts you can find there, three documents describe the basics of the PROMETHEUS Payment® model: (1) “Making PROMETHEUS Payment® Rates Real which describes how “Evidence-informed Case Rates® (ECRs) are constructed; (2) “What’s The Score? which describes how scores are selected and how the scorecard works to foster clinical collaboration among providers; and (3) “Sustaining The Medical Home which explains how the model can work to financially support primary care in a fee for service environment by focusing on paying up front to work to prevent much of the potentially avoidable complications of care. The PROMETHEUS Payment® model does not require any organizational configurations and is applicable in a context of independent providers collaborating to deliver care.

You can learn about Our Mission, Our Board and Our Core Tenets. In response to comments over the last two years regarding our work, we have developed a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and answers which distinguish the PROMETHEUS Payment® model from other forms of payment including capitation, fee-for-service and global surgery rates.

In the interests of transparency, you can examine our ECR Playbooks which explain how each ECR, chronic and acute as well as procedural, is created from claims data. Because of the conceptual breakthrough of being able to identify “Potentially Avoidable Complications” (PACs) from claims data, payors and purchasers can Discover Their Own PACS to help providers focus their attention on specific behaviors to improve care by preventing those complications as much as possible.

We are putting these ideas into practice on the ground. We have Pilot Sites in Minnesota, Rockford, Illinois, Utah and outside of Philadelphia., You can read about the progress of our work in our Newsletters; and you can subscribe to be kept up to date on developments and news. We are interested in dialogue about our work and offer a blog for comments and discussion.

Our goals are to demonstrate the viability of our approach to improve healthcare quality, lower administrative burden, reduce unexplained clinical variation, through the provision of science-based care, paid for equitably and measured in a Scorecard --- with transparency to all --- providers, patients, consumers, plans and purchasers.

We welcome inquiries and interest in our ongoing efforts. Please feel free to contact us at info@prometheuspayment.org.
